Usually Alfanar only invests in Arab start-ups that have been going for at least two years. But they have made an exception with Shatila Studio. Our transition from a failing NGO funded Women’s Workshop to a financially independent social enterprise – the largest in the Shatila camp – within a mere six months impressed them. Their support and investment of $40,000 will help us grow our international clients and costumers, because the more we sell, the more women we can employ. We are currently providing a regular monthly income for 74 refugee embroidery artisans. But every day we have at least two more women walking into our office asking for work.
